In an article for, Helen Croyden takes aim at the problems snoring causes for women. She talks about the lack of sleep, the health problems, and the lack of productivity that comes from being unable to sleep. She is exactly right about the impact this has on a woman, and she is right that women should stop just resigning themselves to this situation. However, she is completely wrong about the solution.

Running Away from the Problem Is Not a Solution

However, this is not a solution to the problem of snoring. First, it neglects the fact that men are also being affected by their snoring. Although they may not know it, their sleep is also being profoundly impacted by their snoring. With less sleep, people become irrational, and this can cause the recriminations and anger around sleeping in a different room to escalate.

And there’s no guarantee that moving to another room will even help a woman. The woman who stabbed her snoring husband was sleeping in another room and was still disturbed by his snoring.

Most importantly, snoring is a common sign of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is an early death sentence. Any woman who loves a man who snores cannot simply pick up and move with a clear conscience, knowing that she is leaving him to snore himself to death.

This is not to say that women shouldn’t sleep in a separate room from a man. There are many good reasons couples choose to sleep apart. But women shouldn’t use sleeping apart as an excuse to avoid addressing the issue of snoring.

Women Can Solve the Snoring Problem

Snoring treatment is very effective and can be tailored to meet the needs of virtually any snorer. The main problem is that most snorers don’t seek treatment, or they just try over-the-counter remedies that are designed, at best, to give marginal relief to people with an average anatomy. Men are inherently bad at seeing their doctor regularly and seeking needed healthcare.

Women can help by taking a stand on the snoring issue and forcing men to get the treatment they need to save their relationship and their life.
