In the dental world, it’s common that certain procedures and technologies can be used in order to treat multiple problem and the same stands true for the DNA Appliance™. Also known as the Daytime-Nighttime Appliance™, this technology has been crafted to treat sleep apnea and TMJ as well as typical orthodontic issues. The DNA Appliance™ is similar to a retainer in the fact that it is removable and works to properly align the teeth and certain facial and oral bones through the inducing of bone growth. Believe it or not, the DNA Appliance™ can actually grow airway tissue!
The appliance uses 3-D Axial springs and Do-Not-Adjust wire™ in order to slowly and comfortably move the teeth into their proper positions. The method is similar to how braces work except the appliance requires no brackets or any type of uncomfortable pressure.
How The DNA Appliance Works
Genetics play a large role in determining the shape and size of a person’s mouth, jaw, and their upper arch. Because each of these parts plays a role in the ease of breathing in each patient, they are main factors that may be the cause of sleep apnea or TMJ. Though many don’t realize it, it is plenty possible for the arch of the mouth to be reshaped and corrected in children as well as adults as to avoid breathing problems. Simply, by wearing the DNA Appliance™, a patient’s upper arch can be widened which then widens the nasal passages. This allows for the lower arch to settle into a more ideal position which then allows for increased airflow capacity in both the nose and the throat. This makes breathing a lot easier. These changes to the shape and size of the arch make for a permanent solution to both sleep apnea and TMJ as it provides for a balanced and properly aligned jaw bone. The appliance can also be used to treat snoring.

- Comfortable to wear
